Tyler grew up in Toronto, Ontario, and moved to Ottawa to attend Carleton University for Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Engineering. It was in high school where he first discovered sustainability and it was at university where he cemented his interest in the field while taking a first-year class lead by a member of LEED. As Tyler’s University career progressed, it became more apparent that the path he was on wasn’t for him. With this realization, he began working seasonally 6 months at Kilcoo camp and 6 finding himself in the city. It was at camp during it’s Covid year where he realized what he wanted to do while building a screened in porch. The construction side of sustainability called to him and set him on a path to become a carpenter. That’s where The Conscious Builder comes into play. Tyler stumbled upon a gold mine of an opportunity. A job he didn’t know existed was the perfect unity of everything he was looking for. A forward looking, growth mindset holding, fun-loving, Ottawa based, passive house building company with not one but two education platforms coupled with it. It had it all! Tyler is excited for this period of rapid growth and learning where he will strive for mastery. Eventually Tyler wishes to move to Carpentry Apprentice and then on to Carpenter. Until then, he continues to work hard on the job, and experiments with woodworking at home in his off time.
