Erik grew up in the Kawarthas as the oldest of five boys in his family. This meant he and his brothers were banished to the outdoors for most of their adolescent life which is where Erik’s endeavours into carpentry first began, building all manner of treeforts and the like around home. His father, being very capable repairing things around the house, taught Erik the basics of building and he learned more of the finer detailed work from his Grandfather, a retired carpenter from Northern Ontario that built fine furniture in his small shop. Out of high school he went straight to work for a local home builder as a gopher on site before donning a toolbelt as a novice carpenter. Not long after that he moved to Toronto to start his apprenticeship under the tutelage of skilled carpenters in a custom home building outfit specializing in high end homes and renos. From there, Erik moved to Ottawa to continue his education in building construction at Algonquin College and finishing his apprenticeship to become a Red Seal carpenter. He then started his own renovation business, completing many sizeable projects over 8 years which he completed most of the site work himself with an apprentice.
Having a passion for better built environments, Erik is excited to join the team at The Conscious Builder. He has the opportunity to continue his journey in the carpentry trade, to continue to advance his knowledge and skillset in high performance building, and collaborate with a team of skilled, like-minded individuals that prioritize higher quality workmanship. Outside of work Erik spends time with his wife Grace and daughter Andy being outdoors exploring the natural world and spending time with family and friends. |
